        Improper Traffic Signals
Here are some examples of improper traffic signals.

Federal law (MUTCD 4D-11) requires 2 (visible) overhead signals.
        [Mott Av at B22  St.]

Signals should be visible (MUTCD 4D-12.  The one on the right isn’t because of both vertical and horizontal alignment issues.  [Beach Channel Drive at Cornaga Av.]

Federal law (MUTCD 4D-11) requires 2 (visible) overhead signals.
        [Edgemere Av at B41  St.]

Federal law (MUTCD 4D-11) requires 2 (visible) overhead signals.
[Rockaway Freeway at B25  St. - This is typical of Rockaway Freeway intersections.]

Signal yellow interval must be longer when the road slopes down to the intersection.  Here all approaches slope down to the intersection but yellow time is only NYC standard.  [Beach Channel Drive at Cornaga Av.]
Proper yellow time is calculated according to federal guidelines available here.  At a 30 mph approach (not speed limit)  speed, the signals should be yellow for 3.2 seconds.
